Galveston offers 32 miles of sun and fun on the Gulf of Mexico. There
is shopping, fishing, plenty of photo opportunities and the Schlitterbahn Waterpark.
Things to do:
- The Galveston Strand has shops that are in Victorian buildings. There are
horse and carriage rides, impressive window displays and items from around
the world.
- Texas Seaport Museum is the home of Elissa, an 1877 tall ship that has been
designated an American Treasure by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Texas Seaport Museum was an immigrant receiving port and has a unique database
to look up people who were processed at this port.
- Moody Gardens originally opened in a barn to provide hippotherapy to people
with head injuries in the mid 1980s and has grown tremendously. Today it has
a 1.5 million gallon aquarium, convention center, educational programs in
the Learning Center and much more.
- Galveston Island State Park has camping, bird watching, nature study, hiking,
mountain bike riding, fishing and a beautiful beach.
- Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig and Museum are jacked up at Pier 19 in
Galveston. Take a tour of the drilling rig and see what it is like to be part
of a offshore oil drilling rig.
- If theater in an authentic theater is your type of entertainment, visit
The Grand 1894 Opera House, which is listed in the National Register of Historic
