Colorado:
Breckenridge
Back to Lodging at Breckenridge
Breckenridge has an interesting history. Early on the townspeople wanted
a post office and they decided to name the town after the United States Vice
President of the time, John C. Breckinridge. It worked to their advantage and
Breckinridge got their post office. In 1861, civil war broke out and John C.
Breckinridge sided with the Confederates. The pro-union folks of the town of
Breckinridge didn't like this and changed the i to an e in their town's name.
It has been Breckenridge ever since. Breckenridge has ski slopes to challenge
the avid skier or to teach the beginner. Elevations exceeding 9,600 feet will
assure a ski pack to please. Imperial Express Superchair opened in the winter
of 2005 and is the highest lift in North America reaching 12,840 feet. Lift
6 and T-Bar will access Imperial Express Superchair. The longest run at Breckenridge
is Four O'clock at 3.5 miles (5.6 km.). Breckenridge is by far a skier heaven
with 2,208 acres of skiing. Summer in Breckenridge offers golf, hiking, biking,
rafting and horseback riding. A little known fact for golf enthusiasts is that
your ball will go further at higher elevations. So, Breckenridge may be just
what your game needs.
